Fire & Rice, an elevated Japanese restaurant, is set to move into a new mixed-used development at 4801 Harford Road.
“I’m excited to be back in the neighborhood,” said Lagergren, who has worked at another Harford Road institution, Zeke’s Coffee, since closing Tooloulou. It was there that he met business partner Kevin Scheuing, who will also be in the kitchen at [Fire & Rice]. “He’s the rice, and I’m the fire,” Lagergren said, explaining that Scheuing will prepare sushi while Lagergren will cook ramen and yakitori, or Japanese-style grilled meats.
Zeke’s coffee has been approved for a liquor license and will soon offer brunch cocktails and be allowed to host special events that include alcohol. Zeke’s Coffee is a family-owned, small-batch coffee roastery and cafe located near the intersection of Southern Ave and Harford Rd. There’s a new generation of Baltimore chocolatiers in Pure Chocolate by Jinji, currently located in the Belvedere Square market and opening soon at SoHa. Jinji Fraser, who started the business with her father Guy in 2012, uses raw Ecuadorian cacao and mostly locally sourced ingredients to make her vegan, gluten- and dairy-free chocolate with fellow chocolatier Jonathan Seton.
